Trail Resources
Books
The International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA) has published two great books for trail managers and builders, respectively. While focused on mountain biking, the information and advice is applicable to multi-trails (nearly all trails in Austin are multi-use). You receive a 10% discount if you are an IMBA member, but please become an Austin Parks Foundation member first!
- Managing Mountain Biking: IMBA's Guide to Providing Great Riding. Published in 2007, this is a new book which covers the organization and management side of mountain biking on trails, including planning & design, partnerships, environmental impacts, safety and risk management, signs and supplies a number of success stories. $35, 10% less for IMBA members. - Trail Solutions. This book combines traditional practices of trail building with advanced techniques for building multi-use trails. This was first published in 2004 and IMBA has sold over 10,000 copies. For trail work, this is the source I (Charlie) use day in and day out and I've had to purchase several copies as a few have been lent and never returned to me. $35, 10% less for IMBA members.
